This historic estate’s award-winning gardens and classically inspired architecture provided the perfect backdrop for our bride and groom, Eliza and Chris, on their unforgettable wedding day.
We’re always excited to shoot at unique locations, and The Mount is no exception. The historic country house is located in The Berkshires. It was designed and built by the late Edith Wharton, a beloved American novelist, in 1902. The National Landmark looks like a work of art and was inspired by English, French, and Italian traditions. These can be seen across nearly 50 acres of beautifully sculpted landscape and formal gardens.
Today, The Mount serves as a historic house museum, a stunning wedding venue, and a vibrant cultural center that hosts many tours and events throughout the year.
The Mount wedding venue is truly a photographer’s dream, and we were thrilled to be able to capture Eliza and Chris’ special day in such a picturesque setting. The bride and groom were absolutely radiant, and their happiness was palpable throughout the day. Getting Ready with the Bridal Party
Eliza and her bridesmaids got ready for the big day in one of The Mount’s beautiful suites. The massive windows allowed ample natural lighting to fill the room as the ladies got their hair and makeup done. Eliza looked absolutely beautiful in her chic white bridal pajamas with delicate feather trim. We love this photo of her surrounded by her close circle of women, dressed in their black PJ sets with white trim, a classic getting-ready outfit. The laughter and excitement in the room were contagious, and everyone was eager to see Eliza in her dress for the first time.
Bridal Portraits
We were absolutely blown away when we first saw Eliza in her gown. The fitted lace silhouette with delicate sleeves and a high neckline was effortlessly chic and elegant. We took her bridal portraits in one of the rooms with a beautiful fireplace, and the results were simply stunning. The natural light streaming in through the windows created a dreamy and romantic atmosphere, perfect for this timeless bridal look.
We then moved to the stunning domed hallway for some more photos. The grandeur of the space was the perfect backdrop for Eliza’s bridal portraits, and we loved photographing her in this elegant setting.
The First Look in the Gardens
One of our favorite moments to witness was when Chris saw Eliza for the first time. We were fortunate to capture these beautiful photos of Eliza in her dress as she made her way across the property to meet Chris in the gardens. This over-the-shoulder shot of our beautiful bride, just a few short steps away from her soon-to-be-husband, is one of our absolute favorites.
Leading up to this moment, we’d been eagerly anticipating their first look, and it did not disappoint. When a bride and groom opt for an intimate first look before their ceremony, they get to share a special moment together as a couple. It’s a moment when they get to take a break from all the wedding day obligations and spend some time alone before their new life begins.
A Stroll Around the Property
After their first look, Chris and Eliza took a stroll through the gardens hand-in-hand. They were completely surrounded by sprawling greenery and beautiful trees that created a natural canopy overhead. We found this rustic wooden bench nestled against a stone wall with a beautiful archway of green vines overhead.
We took several photos of the bride and groom in various locations throughout the property. One standout photograph is definitely this one of the two of them on the steps leading up towards The Mount’s main building.
The Ceremony
Their intimate ceremony took place in one of The Mount’s famous flower gardens, nestled between a serene fountain and the majestic trees. The natural beauty of the setting was a perfect backdrop for this intimate wedding ceremony.
Members of the groomsmen and bridal parties made their way down the long path, lined by trees on either side. Eliza was escorted by her mother and father to meet Chris under the beautiful arbor where they exchanged their vows. After a heartfelt ceremony, they sealed their marriage with a kiss. Then they made their way back up the aisle as husband and wife.
The Reception
The outdoor reception was held beneath a stunning white canopy tent. The space was lit with twinkling lights draped overhead and beautiful candles placed at the center of the family-style tables. The long white tables topped with glowing tea lights and subtle greenery added to the simple and classic elegance of the day.
The bride and groom started off the night with their first dance as husband and wife. This was followed by a series of touching speeches from friends and family. The evening ended with a fun-filled dance party that went on long into the night.
It was a day to remember, and we feel so lucky to have been a part of it. Congratulations, Eliza and Chris! We wish you nothing but the best in your new life together as husband and wife.
