Brahna & Ricky’s Story
Brahna and Ricky both knew they wanted to have an outdoor ceremony. They also wanted a relatively relaxed feeling–nothing too formal. However, they also knew that with almost 300 guests, mostly from the New York area, it just wasn’t feasible to go to a barn in the Hudson Valley. Their parents searched far and wide in the New York area for the right place and eventually happened upon the perfect venue! Their Dyker Beach Golf Course wedding was on a beautiful piece of land tucked away in Brooklyn that neither they not their family had ever heard of or seen before. It had every amenity imaginable for this laid back couple. In addition to the massive patio for the cocktail hour, and a gorgeous garden for the ceremony, they really loved the understated, colonial style of the building where the reception took place. Through Dyker, they were connected to NYC Flower Project to create their beautiful floral arrangements, who work together all the time.
Brahna has always loved the vintage wedding look, so after trying on hundreds of gowns at the more typical retailers, she actually found her gown at a charming shop called Our Story Bridal, a luxury consignment bridal boutique. She found a Pronovias Atelier gown that was already fitted to her size and perfect for the look she wanted. She absolutely loved that it was all lace–especially the sheer back with floral details–and that there was no bodice or puffy layers, making it extremely comfortable. She then worked with an amazing seamstress, Ellen of Ellen’s Couture, to personalize the dress and make it her own. She also hired a fantastic team of makeup artists and hairstylists from Face the Day New York-based in Brooklyn, to help complete her “old Hollywood glam” look on the wedding day.
For her bridesmaids, she went to Jenny Yoo and picked out several styles from the Crepe de Chine fabric line in the Plum color, which she thought was just beautiful and ended up being the motif for the flower arrangements.
Finally, for their traditional Jewish wedding, they wanted a band that was able to provide an authentic set of klezmer music for the cocktail hour and ceremony, and also able to play more standard rock music for the reception, so they happened upon the band Golem, who really rocked it at the wedding. So, viola! It all came together for what we felt was a really beautiful, fun, and relatively low-key wedding.
Congratulations to our happy couple on your wedding day!
