Capitale: Explore This Iconic NYC Wedding Venue

There’s nothing quite like getting married in New York City. The energy is electric, the skyline is breathtaking, and nothing compares to getting married in the city that never sleeps.

For couples looking to get married in the very heart of the city, Capitale is among the most opulent wedding venues in Manhattan. Nestled in the Bowery district, you’ll be within walking distance of the Lower East Side, Chinatown, SoHo, and Little Italy. Surrounded by the rich culture of these landmark neighborhoods, the Capitale is in a prime location for a New York City wedding.

The Capitale building has a rich history dating back to 1893. Originally built as the Bowery Savings Bank, this New York landmark was designed by the famous architect Standford White.

White is also the brilliant mind behind Rockefeller’s Fifth Avenue Mansion, the Washington Square Arch, The Fifth Avenue Tiffany Building, several branches of the New York Public Library, and many other NYC landmarks.

In its early days, the Bowery Savings Bank was one of the most prestigious banking institutions in New York and one of the city’s first savings banks. Today, Capitale stands as a piece of New York history while serving as an event space that provides all of the modern amenities and luxuries that today’s brides and grooms expect from a top-tier wedding venue.

History

Architecture

Capitale’s striking Beaux-Arts architecture is one-of-a-kind. In 2014, the venue underwent a $1 million renovation that added some necessary modern touches while restoring many of the original features that maintain the building’s historical integrity.

The tall Corinthian columns, mosaic marble floors, 65-foot tall ornate coved ceiling, and the jewel-toned stained-glass skylight are just a few of Capitale’s original features that are sure to take your breath away.

Facilities

Capitale’s opulent Grand Ballroom is one of the most sought-after event spaces in New York City. It has even claimed some impressive awards, including Bizbash’s Best Ballroom on the East Coast and Time Out New York’s Most Breathtaking Space in New York City.

Every inch of the ballroom exudes sophistication and luxury, and yet it still serves as the perfect blank canvas for weddings and ceremonies of all styles. With their accommodating staff, Capitale’s team will work with you to ensure that your wedding vision comes to life.

The 15,000-square-foot space can accommodate up to 700 guests for a seated dinner. There are also two private 2,000-square-foot suites located on the 2nd floor that can be used for private rehearsal dinners or pre-nuptial preparations.

Hiring the Right Photographer for a Capitale NYC Wedding

When choosing a photographer to capture images of your special day, you’ll want someone with experience photographing weddings at your chosen venue. With Julian Ribinik Photography, that’s exactly what you’ll find for your wedding at Capitale.

Capitale’s one-of-a-kind architecture and design make it a top choice for couples looking to capture timeless wedding photos. The venue itself provides ample opportunity for gorgeous portraits, but we also love taking our couples outside for a stroll around the surrounding neighborhoods and landmarks. The prime location offers an abundance of iconic NYC backdrops for your wedding photos.

Capitale’s private suites offer an excellent opportunity for intimate getting-ready photos, while the front steps are perfect for a romantic first look. The lighting and grandeur of the ballroom are ideal for editorial-style wedding photos that capture the energy and emotion of your wedding day. There is also a beautiful mezzanine overlooking the ballroom that is perfect for couples’ photos or group shots.

We love to end the evening at the towering front entrance on Bowery Street. This spot is particularly popular for couples looking to snap an iconic exit photo with a classic New York City taxi cab.
