A Photographer’s Quick Guide To Unique Wedding Photos

As a bride-to-be, you’re feeling like the months and weeks leading up to the Big Day have felt quite daunting. There’s been so much to think about and to decide. You want everything to be just perfect: the dress, the venue, the food, the music and, of course, the wedding photos. You want to make sure that you have the most unique wedding photos possible. Photos you will share with family and friends. Photos that you will cherish forever. Spending some time scouring Pinterest, you print out a few ideas to show your photographer. This will be helpful, right?

Wrong.

“Why?” you ask. As wedding photographers, we’re here to lend you some good advice…

Unpredictability makes for the most unique wedding photos.

We’ll be totally blunt. Most (not all, but most) of the wedding photos you see on Pinterest aren’t even from actual weddings. Surprised? It’s true. Most of these photos are staged so that they look perfect — from the lighting to the placement of a champagne glass on a table — each aspect was planned for Pinterest and blogs. In fact, much of this planning and staging takes weeks. Obviously, this is not what happens at a wedding. As for the real wedding photos you see on Pinterest, they are the best of the best. They were chosen by leading bloggers in the industry because they were so extraordinary. So when someone shows us pictures from Pinterest and asks us to recreate them, we say that this isn’t a good idea. From a wedding photographer’s point of view, great photos are all about the lighting, the scenery, the bride, groom, wedding party and guests. Each of these elements must come together for us to take the perfect photos. While we don’t have a week to stage and take a photo, we do our best to take shots that are most important to you, and to capture what happens by chance. And we’ll tell you: The most unique wedding photos always tend to happen by complete chance.

The best unique wedding photos will always be timeless.

“Trendy”, “on-trend”, “latest styles”. These are a few of the keywords you’ll see scattered in Pinterest wedding photo descriptions. While a photo of a bride and groom skiing down a slope might be hip for a season, it’s not always going to be hip. Let’s be honest, you don’t want your wedding photos to be unique for the wrong reasons! The best photos will always be timeless. A chance moment or a traditional photo will always look better than a silly pose. When you think of famous wedding photos through the years, chances are you’ll flash back to classic photos like Princess Diana walking down the aisle. Timeless always takes top place.

You want a photographer to create — not recreate — unique wedding photos for you.

As photographers, we don’t want to steal ideas from fellow photographers. This is another reason we will tell you not to bring us wedding photo ideas from Pinterest. Our job is to create beautiful photos for you, and hiring us means giving us your trust to do just that. We ensure that your wedding photos will be 100% original. The great thing about them is that they won’t look like anyone else’s photos. That’s what it truly means to have unique wedding photos!
